Because it's what you do...

I've recently joined the "mom club" and now I've decided to start a blog because that is what mom's do. Right? Well, not really...I mean, yes, lots of my mom-friends have blogs but I'm not one to jump on the bandwagon just because everyone is doing it. Instead, I've found myself wanting to capture memories of these past 4 weeks with my new son and the pen and journal have stayed glued to my bedside table, while my laptop always seems to find its way into my lap (which is currently being shared by my son and a boppy). So, since I haven't been able to keep a pen and paper record of moments I thought I would try the blogging thing...
again...
this is seriously the 4th or 5th blog I've started and tried to keep up with...
wish me better luck this time ;)
If anyone reads this, please leave a comment. It might just motivate me to keep it up!
That should suffice as an appropriate introduction. Now, on to some of those sweet moments I mentioned.
"Reflections on the first 4 weeks" should be the title of my first post. They've been really great. Better, actually, than I imagined. I heard every horror story in the book about life with newborns. I was prepared for BATTLE! But, besides the actual "BIRTH day" of my little Nash Elliot (and believe me, that WAS a battle), the first 4 weeks have been better than expected. Do NOT get me wrong...they have been sleep-deprived, busier-than-I've-ever-been-in-my-life weeks, but they have been sooo full of joy and amazement that the stress pales in comparison. Perhaps I was just prepared?
Some of the funny moments:
Nick (around 2am one morning during one of Nash's wake-up calls)-"he's out of batteries."
Me-"umm....?"
Nick-"wait, I mean, diapers...he's out of diapers!"
both-"hahahaha!"
Me-"there's more DIAPERS in his room. hahaha!"

and another:
upon waking for another middle of the night feeding I find myself burping my child by slapping the back of his HEAD instead of his BACK! whoops ;) (he's ok though)

and the joys:
his first smiles...he's only 4 weeks new but I see him becoming more and more alert and intentional with his facial expressions. SO SWEET! he's like a little flower bud I get to watch open in slow-motion. cheesey, i know. but true.

Okay, enough gushing. My next posts will explain the blog title and describe Nash's birth story (I wrote that to remind myself. Mommy-brain is REAL!!). I'll probably have some more entertaining anecdotes by the next time I write, too. Til then... xoxoKels

  2. I shot a story today with a newborn the exact same age as Nash and it made me wistful because Sam's so much bigger now. I miss the middle-of-the-night feedings if only for the chance to rock him back to sleep again. So glad you're savoring this time in his and your lives, congratulations!
